For IT professionals interested in the field of virtualization the family of VMware certifications are must-have credentials

VMware credentials offer a complete certification roadmap encompassing all skills levels and are recognized globally as best in class.

VMware's V5 credentials are being phased out and replaced with credentials based on VMware vSphere 6.
VMware offers candidates an entry-level cert in the form of the VMware Certified Associate 6 - Data Center Virtualization (VCA6-DCV), followed by the VMware Certified Professional 6 - Data Center Virtualization (VCP6-DCV).
The VCP6-DCV is a professional-level certification that prepares credential holders for more advanced certifications, including the VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP6-DCV), VMware Certified Implementation Expert (VCIX6-DCV) and the pinnacle cert, VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX-DCV).

Training is required for non-credential holders seeking to obtain the VCP6-DCV. Global IT Training offers a variety of training options to meet the training prerequisite: live online and live classroom, some of which include virtual labs. Candidates who have prior vSphere 5.x training but aren't VCP certified must complete the "what's new" (V5.5 to V6) training course and pass the associated exams. Those possessing a valid VCP5-DCV credential need only pass a delta exam to obtain the credential.

VMware has retired 3 exams:

VMware has retired the following 3 exams:

Exam VDCA550 for VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 — Data Center Administration (VCAP5-DCA)

Exam VDCD550 for VMware Certified Advanced Professional 5 — Data Center Design (VCAP5-DCD)

Exam VCXN610 for VMware Certified Implementation Expert — Network Virtualization (VCIX-NV)

Upgrading from VCP5 to VCP6: Only one exam is required. There is no course attendance required (but it is highly recommended).

  • There will be five VCP6 migration options across the four technology tracks: Data Center Virtualization (DCV), Desktop and Mobility (DTM), Cloud Management and Automation (CMA), and Network Virtulization (NV):
  •  VCP6: Data Center Virtualization Exam (exam number: 2V0-621)
  •  VCP6: Data Center Virtualization Delta Exam (exam number: 2V0-621D)
  •  VCP6: Desktop & Mobility Exam (exam number: 2V0-651)
  •  VCP6: Cloud Management and Automation Exam (exam number: 2V0-631)
  •  VCP6: Network Virtualization Exam (exam number: 2V0-641)
  • If you hold one of the following v6 certifications you will be automatically migrated to the equivalent new VCP6 certification:
  • VCP6-Cloud = VCP6-Cloud Management and Automation
  • VCP6-Desktop = VCP6-Desktop and Mobility
  •  VCP-Network Virtualization = VCP6–Network Virtualization

ESXTOP – CPU Overview

What is ESXTOP?

The VMware esxtop tool provides a real-time view of ESX/i Server worlds. The term world refers to processes running on the VMkernel. The focus on this deep dive will be CPU usage.

There are three types of worlds:

System: The worlds that are needed to perform various system services. These include one idle world per physical CPU that runs when there is nothing else to run on that physical CPU, helper worlds for performing asynchronous tasks and driver worlds.

Service Console: The world for the service console. It always runs on physical CPU0. The service console does not exist on the ESXi server.

Virtual Machine: The world for each virtual CPU. This is the world you look at when troubleshooting.
